Development Strategy

Assistant presidential envoy in the Far East Alexander Levintal participated in the round table discussion at the State Duma of Russia last week. Priority directions of the Far East and Baikal Region development until 2025 were on the agenda of the day.

Alexander Levintal identified 5 main trends for social and economic development: creating conditions for effective economic development, creating conditions for comfortable living, getting rid of various limitations in the transport, energy and infrastructure spheres, foreign economic cooperation, and ecology.

This draft of 2025 Strategy has been approved at public hearings in all subjects of the Far East already. Ministry of Regional Development of Russia plans to submit this document for the review of the Russian government on December 14, 2009.

Accidents

Last week Vladivostok was shaken by two unfortunate accidents. Saturday, December 5th, roof of a local indoor skating ring collapsed under the weight of snow. It’s been snowing heavily in the city and administration of the sports facility didn’t have time to clean the roof. No victims.

Wednesday, December 9th, a passenger bus collided with a heavy truck. The bus was going from Vladivostok to smaller town in the country. 17 people were injured, 5 people died.

Unsuccessful relocation

Ussuriisk municipal district welcomes immigrants. This is a special program of the government that helps Russian towns restore population and fill in missing professions by accepting immigrants from former Soviet Republics. There are over 100 jobs available in Ussuriisk for immigrants, but only 8 families have moved here so far.

Although the government is ready to provide a job and grant easy conditions of getting Russian citizenship, immigrant families have to look for a place to live all by themselves.

Milk market

Milk prices rocketed up in Primorsky Region last week. There are not enough cows to provide customers with natural milk of local production, so many local famers use dry milk to prepare products for sales. A local newspaper reports that the government decided to raise prices for inexpensive milk-powder from Belarus thus protecting natural milk producers from Central Russia. Whereas Far-Eastern regions now have to buy it at speculative prices which more than doubled in the past weeks.

Healthcare centers

The federal budget has allocated 5.2 million rubles to Primorsky Region to organize 7 healthcare centers. These centers will be established at municipal and regional medical establishments. Healthcare centers aim at promoting healthy lifestyle and implanting the habit of taking care of one’s health and preventing serious illnesses through consultations, health education and health condition monitoring.
