Great Plan for Nizhny Tagil

Igor Shuvalov, the first deputy of the chairman of the Russian Government, chaired a meeting of the Commission for Economic Development and Integration last week. Sverdlovsk Region governor Alexander Misharin put forward and defended the project of the development of Nizhny Tagil at this Commission session.

Overall volume of investments required to fulfill the plan in 2010-2020 estimates 124 billion rubles. The development plan contains four major sections: diversification of the traditional industries of the city, creating new industries in the city’s economy, developing social infrastructure, optimizing ecological landscape and urban environment.

Governor of the Middle Urals Alexander Misharin also made a number of visits to the western areas of the region, attending a milk farm and an industrial factory, and opening a new hospital.

Militia vs Art

A famous musician and pianist, lecturer of the Ural State Conservatory named after Musorgsky, was severely beaten by militia officers. Sergey Beloglazov, an honored art worker of Russia, has both hands injured as well as concussion of the brain. The case investigation is supervised by the Head of Sverdlovsk Region Militia Mikhail Nikitin.

Long-term contract

VSMPO-Avisma Corporation PSC announced extension of its contract with Snecma, a Safran Group company, for another long-term period. The Supply Agreement became effective in January 2010.

VSMPO will continue supplies of titanium forgings to Snecma for the production of CFM56 family engines. This type of engines is produced by a joint venture of Snecma and General Electric.

Kurgan Region

Subsidies for agriculture

Minister of Agriculture of Russia Elena Skrynnik signed Agreements with a number of Russian regions for the provision of governmental subsidies to support agriculture and social life in rural areas. The list of regions includes Kurgan Region.

In 2010 the regional budget will cover only 35 instead of 50 percent of overall volume of subsidies for this governmental program. The rest of the money will be provided by the federal budget.

Kurgan Region will get 455 million rubles to implement the program and achieve the required production volumes as well as increase production of poultry, pork, milk and crops.

Budget changes

The Committee for budgeting, financial and tax policy of Kurgan Regional Duma held a meeting on February 11, 2010. It adopted some amendments to the budget. The budget earnings were increased by 389 million rubles, totaling making 18.75 billion rubles. Whereas expenses were enlarged by 1.5 billion rubles and totally make 20.68 billion rubles.

Energy sector

Leading enterprises of Kurgan Region participate in the construction project of Kurgan’s thermoelectric power station TEC-2. Although most of the equipment for the power plant is produced in Czech Republic, local companies are actively involved in providing various services and acting as sub-contractors.
