Recultivation of industrial land
Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia held a meeting devoted to the problems of Baikalsk Pulp and Paper Plant. The federal ministry decided that liquidation of industrial waste and recultivation of land near the Plant should be financed from the regional budget, not federal.
Minister of Natural Resources Yury Trutnev suggested a 50x50 scheme of financing for the federal and regional budgets, not relying upon Continental Management, which owns the facility. Experts comment that recultivation of land may cost 8-10 billion rubles.
Baikal Information Forum
Baikal Information Forum will take place in the capital of the Republic of Buryatia Ulan-Ude on June 24-26, 2009. Organizers of the Forum have defined the topic for this year’s event: ways of realization of the information society development strategy in Russia. Participants will discuss such questions as digital television, new information technologies, electronic libraries, the role of mass media in forming information society, etc.
The Forum will also include round table discussions on the specific conditions of digital television in Siberia and the Far East, Internet mass media and Internet television in Russia.
Vasily Oyun’s resignation
Vitaly Valkov has been elected the new speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Greal Khural of the Republic of Tuva. At a special meeting of the Chamber its former chairman Vasily Oyun resigned. United Russia local division started to speak about resignation of Vasily Oyun on May 22, 2009. His membership in the party has also been terminated for actions putting the United Russia in jeopardy.
Boris Balchii-ool has been appointed deputy chairman of the Legislative Chamber.
Mining in Khakasia
Viktor Zimin, chairman of the government of the Republic of Khakasia, met with the leaders of coal industry labor unions. Together they came up to the decision to stop the strike organized by 35 miners of Abakan Mining Company on May 27, 2009. The workers demand paying off their salaries for April and May, paying severance and reimbursements for missed vacations.
Owner of the Mine Eniseiskaya, Naftotrans, assured the labor unions that 3.9 million rubles had been allocated to pay off wage arrears for April. Besides, the mine’s general director Valery Tysyachny was fired. Alexander Lochev has replaced him in the post of director.
Head of the Republic Viktor Zimin underlined the fact that the government had fulfilled all obligations and provided all the help requested by the mine owners, however they did not do the same.
