Vladivostok hosted Pacific Economic Forum on July 2-3, 2010. The event concentrated on innovations and APEC Summit 2012. Local law enforcement agencies continued to disguise state officials who violate anti-corruption legislation. Learn details in the weekly report of events by FederalPress.

Economic Congress

Last week Vladivostok gathered over 300 experts representing the elite of business, science and governmental officials for the Pacific Economic Congress. Innovative approaches to the economic and industrial development were on the agenda.

Governor of Primorsky Region Sergey Darkin previously reported that integration of Asian-Pacific area, innovations and modernization of cities would be the most important topics of the Congress. However, all talks focused mainly on preparing Vladivostok for the APEC Summit in 2012.

Anti-corruption activities

12 employees of Rospotrebnadzor in Primorsky Region have been warned against violating anti-corruption legislation. These officials failed to report their income and financial situation truthfully. Some are still direct owners and managers of stock, which is strictly forbidden for the state employees.

Moreover, economic crimes department director says there are several cases in process in his office involving high rank officials. The higher is the title of the official, the more difficult it is to prove any involvement into corruption activities.

“New schemes of delivering money are emerging. Often we find that non-cash transactions take place through one-day firms, which transfer money to multiple accounts and accumulate it later at the final recipient”, economic crimes department director comments.

Winter preparations

Summer is traditionally the season to get ready for the winter frosts. Heating systems are being checked out and prepared for the new heating season. This year it is planned to spend nearly one billion rubles more than last year for these purposes.

A number of heating stations will be upgraded to use coal instead of fuel-oil residue. Reserves of fuel and coal are being made according to schedule throughout the region. However, at least one territory fails to keep up with the plan.

Major heat provider, PrimTeploEnergo, officially stated it would not work in the area of Lesozavodsk due to extensive debts this municipality has accumulated in non-paid heat bills.

Fishery

The Day of Fisher was celebrated in Primorsky Region last week. Fishing industry delivered its 6 months report of operational results.

Primorsky Region fishers actually provide for one fifth part of the country’s water biological resources. 440 thousand tons of fish was caught since the beginning of 2010. This is 23% more than in the same period of 2009.

The volume of fish catch also makes 29.8% of Russia’s overall catch in the first quarter of 2010.

Local fish enterprises report that production volume equals approximately 9.2 billion rubles. There are no back pay problems in the industry and the proportion of profitable companies has risen by 7.4 percent this year exceeding Russia’s average.
