Mining industry

Workers of the Mining and Chemical Company “Boron” CJSC stopped their strike on August 16, 2010 and resumed work. The company is managed by RGRK (Russian Mining and Chemical Company) and accumulated 41 million of wage arrears by August causing 230 workers to go on a strike.

The company develops the unique boron ore deposit in the Far East. Situation with wages at the facility made vice-governor of Primorsky Region personally interfere and hold negotiations with the owners of the company. The first tranche of 30 million rubles have already been transferred to the worker’s accounts. General director of RGRK has become a subject of administrative violation case.

Subsidies to agriculture

Agricultural producers of Primorsky Region will receive millions of rubles of subsidies from the government. In 2010 this sector has already got 296.6 million rubles from both regional and federal budgets.

98.8 millions were spent to support stock breeding and raising cattle. 55.5 million rubles were allocated to raising crops and other plants. The budget reimburses farmers’ for diesel fuel, bank loan monthly payments and equipment insurance expenses.

Additional money will be allotted to modernize agricultural equipment. All in all regional agricultural sector will receive over 920 million rubles in 2010.

Gasification

A working meeting on engineering and building energy system objects for APEC Summit was held in the regional administration on August 19, 2010. The report goes, construction of the gas pipeline Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok is accomplished according to the schedule.

Construction sites are located in 11 municipal areas, over two thousand people are employed, 600 machines are used. Russian metal production industry ships pipes and other parts for the project on a daily basis.

Governor of Primorsky Region Sergey Darkin underlines that gasification works must comply with all legislative acts related to nature preservation. Monitoring of the ecological situation must be regular and done by independent expert organizations.

It is planned to transfer energy system objects on gas. “Gas will change the structure of the economy of Primorie, gas will allowing it to become more competitive. Additionally, natural gas is cheaper and a more ecology friendly type of fuel, it will raise the quality of life in the region considerably”, governor Sergey Darkin acknowledged at the meeting.

Capital repair

1.6 billion rubles will be allocated by the Foundation for Housing Reform for capital repair of 479 buildings, press service of Primorsky Region administration informed last week.

This year 9 large cities of the region including Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Ussuriisk, and 24 minor towns and villages are participating in the Foundation’s program.

“Internal networks, roofs and basements, staircases and entrances of the buildings will be changed”, the report stated.

No water, no power

Dwellers of Vladivostok had to get by without water for about two days in a row. An old water pipe burst during construction works leaving thousands of people without cold water supply. Additionally, according to pressure testing schedule hot water was also cut off in several city districts. Local prosecutor service is working to find people responsible for this emergency situation.

August 20th brought one more inconvenience. Energy networks failed and most part of the city was left without electricity for many hours.
