Sverdlovsk Region
Accident in the mine
A 27-year-old mine worker was heavily injured by a load-haul-dumper on March 10, 2010. The accident happened in a mine belonging to Sevuralboksitruda JSC, an affiliate of RUSAL. The worker is currently under the doctors’ supervision in the hospital. Investigation commission will continue work on the site until March 25th.
Voting results
Municipal elections of mayors and deputies of Legislative Assemblies took place in all towns and cities of Sverdlovsk Region on March 14, 2010. Preliminary results indicate that United Russia remains the most popular political party, with its candidates receiving 39.79% of votes. The Communist Party is the second one on the popular list with 21.69 % of votes. Fair Russia takes the third position (19.3 percent).
Industrial orders
Industrial production volume of the titanium corporation VSMPO-Avisma will grow by 10 percent this year. Whereas the company’s income might reduce by 5 percent, and total returns might reduce even more, CEO Mikhail Voevodin says. This will happen because of the changes in the sales structure. 2010 is expected to be the worst year since 2008 by the volume of consumption by aviation companies, which are primary users of titanium produce of VSMPO.
VSMPO made the decision to service orders with smaller return rates arriving from other industries to be able to partly replace orders usually coming from the aviation market. However, in 2011 the Corporation plans to restore production volumes for the aerospace sector.
The Communist Party
FederalPress Center in Ekaterinburg organized a meeting of journalists with the leader of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov and secretaries of the party’s local divisions. The meeting took place on March 11, 2010 and became a part of pre-election propaganda of the politicians.
Visit of a Vice Prime Minister
Vice Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Zhukov made a working visit to Asbest, one of the region’s one-company towns. He visited UralAsbest JSC, fiber rock production company which forms the town’s economy.
Vice Prime Minister promised to get governmental support for Russian Magnesium JSC, a company which recycles dumps left after fiber rock production.
Alexander Zhukov then held a meeting in Ekaterinburg devoted to the situation in the labor market and systematic measures regional governments take to provide stable employment rates.
Chelyabinsk Region
Election process
A member of the Central Election Commission of Russia Elena Dubrovina came to Chelyabinsk Region with a working visit on March 11, 2010. She met with the chairman of the regional election commission to discuss this year’s election campaign. Local official Irina Starostina noticed that this campaign was “very rough and dirty”. 52 complaints arrived from the candidates regarding illegal and invalid requirements or misdoings of their rivals, local election boards, etc. The night before the elections anonymous booklets and flyers were delivered to mailboxes of the thousands of people in the region.
Accident at Mechel’s
Two women got severely injured on March 11, 2010 at a by-product-coke plant of Mechel-Koks Ltd (part of Mechel Holding). There was an explosion and fire caused by a gas leak. One of the women died due to severe traumas, the other one has been hospitalized.
Healthcare
Governor of Chelyabinsk Region Pyotr Sumin decided to send the budget money and purchase the unique CyberKnife system for the regional Oncological Clinic. This system costs 437 million rubles and will be the first device of such a high class in Russia.
The purchase is done under the program of modernizing equipment in medical oncology centers of the region.
Kurgan Region
New parliament
The results of the municipal elections in the region indicate there are four major players on the regional political stage. United Russia takes the leading position with 41.23% of votes. Then goes the Communist Party with 25.21 percent of votes. Fair Russia gained 17.2% of votes at these elestions. Liberal Democratic Party takes the fourth position with 12.66 percent. This means that the Regional Duma will have more at least three fractions instead of one as it used before.
Recruitment
KurganMashZavod JSC announced recruitment of workers of various specializations. This facility is a part of Machinery & Industrial Group N.V. (Tractor Plants Concern), which produces agricultural machines.
The Plant plans to expand production by far in 2010 and needs more workers with very specific qualifications. Last year the Plant trained 502 employees and continues training programs for the newcomers this year as well.
