Visits to municipal districts

Governor of Sverdlovsk Region made a number of working visits to minor towns of the region. Alexander Misharin spoke with the mayors and inspected leading industrial enterprises of Pervouralsk, Artemovsky, Rezh and Reftinsky. After these working visits the governor concluded that southern territories of the region (Asbest, Reftnsky) are more successful than others in terms of economic development.

Mine explosion

Investigation commission finished the case of explosion at the Mine Estyuninskaya, belonging to EVRAZ Group. Investigators identified people responsible for violating industrial safety regulations and announced the reasons of the explosion.

Officially announced reason is the break of electric wire and short circuit while the mine car was carrying explosives and their primers. This was the most severe violation of safety rules. Additionally, materials were loaded onto cars above side boards.

“Firm” orders

Titanium Corporation VSMPO-Avisma headquartered in Sverdlovsk Region received confirmations from customers for 54% of initial orders portfolio. The company got such a high percentage of confirmations at the beginning of the year for the first time in the past five years.

VSMPO plans to produce 21 thousand tons of titanium products in total in 2010. This figure is less than in 2008, but it is 10% more than in 2009.

 

Chelyabinsk Region

Internet for school children

Administration of Chelyabinsk plans to connect all schools of the city to high-speed Internet channel. School children will be able to access the World Wide Web not only at IT classes, but anytime after classes if they stay at school for extra time. Internet subscription fee will be covered by the Education Department of the administration.

Banking system

Bankers of Chelyabinsk published annual reports last week. According their data, the banking system of South Urals works well and demonstrates stability. Despite of the crisis, banks were able to avoid lay-offs. However, main players in this market don’t make plans for extension of business, therefore long-term economic prognosis are not possible to make. At the moment the banks’ major difficulty is accumulation of debts under credits.

Tourism sector

Expert news channel UralPolit.Ru traditionally held a round table discussion in Chelyabinsk. Last week’s topic was devoted to independent travel vs organized travel. Travel professionals indicate that traveling independently might truly be less expensive and a better option for those who want to spend a month or two in Goa, India. However for those willing a usual 10-days vacation, the help of travel professionals would be not be useless.

Experts also covered the topic of discounter flights and discount systems of tour operators, and how little attention the Russian legislation gives to this matter.

There is one considerable barrier now in effect in Russia that hinders people to leave the country. It is unpaid taxes. Tax offices compile black lists of debtors and share it with the customs offices at the airports.

One candidate off

Current mayor of Miass, Victor Ardabievsky, took his name from the election list. He decided not to participate in the spring municipal elections of mayors. Experts are sure Ardabievsky made a deal with one of his rivals, but the parties concerned reject any such agreement.

 

Kurgan Region

New government

Regional Duma of Kurgan approved candidates suggested by the regional governor for his new Cabinet. There will be three deputy governors – Alexander Bukhtoyarov, Nikolai Grigoriev and Nikolai Loginov. Nikolai Boltnev was appointed director of the Department of economic development, trade and labor, Elena Perminova – head of the financial office.

Oleg Panteleev was re-approved as the region’s senator in the Council of the Federation of Russia.

Extension of the resource base

Governor of Kurgan Region Oleg Bogomolov focuses attention on the mineral resources of this territory. Firstly, the government will look for investors willing to conduct oil prospecting in Kurgan Region.

Secondly, Glubochenskoe iron ore deposit has been offered as the region’s contribution to the authorized capital of the Corporation Ural Industrial – Ural Polar. Development of iron and uranium ore deposits will become of the region’s priorities.

Safety of food

Chief Sanitary Officer of Russia Gennady Onischenko held a meeting with Kurgan’s territorial office of Rospotrebnadzor (federal agency for customer rights protection and wellness of men) on January 28, 2010. He voiced out the agency’s objectives for this year: increasing local production of high quality food products instead of raising the number of sanitary check-ups.

Gennady Onischenko visited one of the region’s biggest farms and attended food exhibition of the brand “Quality of Kurgan”.
